I have never really been into the genre of contemporary books, and most of the ones that I have read only gave me a stronger disdain for them. But a few months ago I decided at 2 o’clock in the morning that I just could not sleep and wanted to read a stand-alone book. I wasn’t in the mood for fantasy (fantasy is a genre I normally gravitate too), I wanted something that was easy to follow without having to understand the backstory and setting of the book. So I decided to pick up another contemporary book. I went into this book having little hope of enjoying it, and ended up falling in love with the book.

I think we can all agree that reading slumps are one of the worst things a bookworm can experience. There is nothing more frustrating than having a whole stack of books to get through, but simply not having enough motivation to get through those books.
I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump lately, and have a tendency to start books without finishing them. I’ve created a little list of things that have worked for me in the past, and may assist you in getting out of your own reading slump. Over the years my book collection has grown a lot. 324 physical books at the moment, to be precise. Sometimes I find it very hard to restrain myself from buying a book – book bans just don’t work. I like to refer to my literary treasures as my Book Empire. I'm sure we all like adding books that we're excited to read to our Book Empires; the only problem is… a reading addiction can be quite expensive.
